Choosing Prayer Over Anger in a Troubled World

Everyday, the news reminds us how broken and lost this world is. Violence from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcements (ICE) highlights increased enforcement actions, thoudands of arrests, families split up, children left and traumatized as well as a rise on assaults on officers. In addition, the news on the Eipstein Files and the massive release of documents, photos, and list of names of powerful people who were involved with this monster, are just shocking and unbelievable. But all of this proves that Satan is non-stop working and evil is real. Injustice is at its highest, deception, and moral confusion are everywhere.

For many Christians, the natural response is anger- anger at evil, anger at corruption, anger at how dark things seem to be getting. If I am honest, hearing of child abuse, child trafficking and anything wrong done to a child, boils my blood and I get so angry. But, The Bible warns us that when anger grows unchecked, it doesn't stay righteous for long. It hardens the heart, clouds discernment and pulls our focus away from God. Many poeople result to violence, fighting each other and evil thoughts. However, when we look to what The Bible says about controlling anger, it is totally the opposite.

Key Bible Verses on Controlling Anger

• Ephesians 4:26-27 (NIV): "In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold".

• Proverbs 14:29 (NIV): "Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly".

• Psalm 37:8 (NIV): "Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil".

• James 1:19-20 (NIV): "My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires".

• Colossians 3:8 (NIV): "But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips".

• Ecclesiastes 7:9 (NIV): "Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools".

When Anger is Left Unattended

The Bible acknowledges that anger itself is not always sin-but it becomes dangerous when we let in linger. We can read this in Ephesians 4:26-27, "In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold". Our unprocessed anger leaves room for the enemy to influence our lives and thoughts. Instead of turning to prayer, people shift to rage and anger. It saddens me to see peole on social media argue with each other on posts on who is right, who is wrong, what people in power are doing or not doing, etc. C'mon guys, we shouldnt be arguing over social media! Instead, when we read or hear the bad news, let us pray, pray, pray.

Prayer Reorients the Heart

God never tells us to ignore what is taking place in the wrold. Instead, He calls us to bring it to Him. Actively moving from worry to prayer as it says in, Philippians 4:6-7- ^6 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. ⁷ And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus".

Prayer does not ignore or deny reality, it places reality back into God's hands. It reminds us that peace does not come from control but from trust.

• Philippians 4:6-7: Encourages praying about everything to receive the peace that guards hearts and minds.

• Isaiah 26:3: Promises perfect peace for those whose minds are steadfast on God.

• John 16:33: Assures that in Jesus, we can have peace despite worldly tribulations.

• 2 Thessalonians 3:16: A prayer for the Lord to give peace at all times and in every way.

God Is Not Surprised by Evil

What we are witnessing today did not catch God off guard. Scripture makes it clear that God knows the end from the beginning. There is nothing new under the sun that God does not know of already.

“I am God, and there is none else… declaring the end from the beginning.”— Isaiah 46:9–10

Why do the nations rage? God’s response is not panic.

“He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.”— Psalm 2:4

God remains sovereign—even when the world feels unstable. Reading these verses gives me goosebumps! God is powerful, Omnipotent, Omniscient and Omnipresent.

Scripture Over Headlines

Sadly, many believers are more informed by the news than by the Word of God. Headlines explain events, but Scripture explains meaning.

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”— 2 Timothy 3:16

The Bible gives us truth, clarity, and discernment in a world full of noise. This year, my prayer is to silence all the noise around in the world and fill my mind and soul with worship and scripture, podcasts and books.

Understanding the Times We’re Living In

Jesus Himself warned us that the world would grow more chaotic before His return.

“And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars… all these are the beginning of sorrows.”—Matthew 24:6–8

“This know also, that in the last days perilous (dangerous) times shall come.”— 2 Timothy 3:1

We were never promised comfort. The word says we will face many troubles BUT we were promised truth!

Why Christians Should Read Revelation

The book of Revelation was not written to produce fear, but understanding. To be honest, I used to be scared of reading the book of Revelations. But there is so much truth in this book and we should be reading it if we haven't yet. I challenge you to begin reading it, as I will too.

“The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass.”— Revelation 1:1

Revelation reminds us that evil has an expiration date.

“I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.”— Revelation 22:13

God already knows how this story ends—and He wins!

Responding the Way God Calls Us To

As believers, our calling is not to react in rage, but to respond in faith. God is the righteous judge. Only him!

“Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.”— Romans 12:19

“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts.”— Colossians 3:15

Prayer keeps our hearts soft, our minds clear, and our trust anchored in God rather than in circumstances. This world may be growing darker, but God’s truth has never been clearer. Choose prayer over anger. Choose Scripture over fear. Stay rooted in the Word, and let God guard your heart in the days ahead.
